Broadmoor Police Commission

The governing body of the Broadmoor Police Protection District is a Police Commission of three residents elected at large by the voters of the district. Each commissioner is elected for a term of four years. The presiding officer of the Police Commission is the chairman and is selected annually by a vote of the sitting commissioners. The three commissioners serve without compensation.

The primary responsibility of the Board of Police Commissioners is the formulation and evaluation of policy. Routine matters concerning the operational aspects of the Broadmoor Police Department are the sole responsibility of the Chief of Police.

The Police Commission selects and appoints only the Chief of Police. The Chief of Police is responsible for hiring all employees of the police department. The Police Commission also sets policy, determines and sets the annual budget, and hears appeals in certain personnel matters.

The Commission meets the second Tuesday of every month.  Members who live in the city of Broadmoor are welcome to attend.

Commissioners For 2010

Commissioner Wayne Johnson
Commissioner Johnson's passion is this community. He has been a resident and property owner in Broadmoor for 45 years, a former police chief, and involved in law enforcement for over 35 years. Being a police commissioner has allowed Wayne the opportunity to interact and network with other law enforcement agencies in San Mateo County, as well as surrounding counties, in order for the Broadmoor Police Department to better serve the Broadmoor community.

Commissioner Joseph Sheridan
Commissioner Sheridan has been on the board for the last 4 years.  He began his law enforcement career in Broadmoor as a Police Cadet and rose to the rank of Corporal of Police, before moving onto his current position with the San Mateo County Sheriffs Office.  Commissioner Sheridan currently resides in Broadmoor with his wife Gina and their two children.

Commissioner Ralph Hutchens
Commissioner Hutchens was recently elected to the third Police Commission spot in the community. Ralph was born in San Francisco and raised in Daly City attending local schools, Daniel Webster, Christopher Columbus, Ben Franklin, Westmoor High School and Skyline College. He has been happily married for 37 years to my Westmoor High School sweetheart (former Miss Broadmoor 1970 and resident since 1959). He has three sons that he is very proud of.
